Imax to bow second screen in Singapore

It pacts with Shaw Theatres

Imax Corp. is expanding in the Southeast Asian market with a second giant-screen theater in Singapore set to open in 2012.

Shaw Theatres, one of Singapore’s top exhibs, inked an agreement to install an Imax theater system in the new JCube entertainment complex.

The agreement comes after the success of Singapore’s first commercial Imax venue, the Shaw Theaters Lido Imax, which opened in May and has already generated more than $1.4 million in gross box office

Shaw Theaters, which owns six multiplexes in Singapore, has been operating cinemas in the city-state since 1927. Imax has 560 theaters in 46 countries.
