Haunted-house tale from 'Blair Witch' helmer
Image Entertainment has agreed to a U.S. distribution deal for Eduardo Sanchez’s “Lovely Molly” from Content.
Deal was announced Monday at the American Film Market, two weeks after Image acquired the haunted-house thriller. Image didn’t announced a release date.
“Lovely Molly” premiered in Toronto’s Midnight Madness section in September.
Sanchez, who directed “The Blair Witch Project,” helmed “Molly” from his own script. Gretchen Lodge, Johnny Lewis and Alexandra Holden star, with Lodge making her bigscreen debut.
“Molly” is produced by “Blair Witch” producers Robin Cowie and Gregg Hale of Haxan, Jane Fleming (“The Frozen Ground”) and Mark Ordesky (exec producer of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy) of Amber Entertainment.
The 1999 “Blair Witch” was a surprise hit with more than $140 million in domestic grosses.
Deal is being negotiated by Mark Ward and Jess De Leo, associate director of business and legal affairs on behalf of Image; Rob Cowie of Haxan Films, Jane Fleming of Amber Entertainment, Stuart Rosenthal of BHDRL and Graham Taylor of WME Global on behalf of the filmmakers.
Content Film is handling international sales at AFM.
