Comedy to get theatrical, VOD release

IFC Midnight has acquired North American distribution rights for Todd Rohal-helmed comedy “The Catechism Cataclysm” following its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year.

The film follows the canoe-and-camping misadventures of a young priest played by Steve Little (“Eastbound and Down”).

Arianna Bocco, senior VP of acquisitions & productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films, who helped negotiate the deal, told Daily Variety IFC Midnight would release “The Catechism Cataclysm” through its Video On Demand platform and simultaneously schedule a theatrical release for New York and Los Angeles, though no date has been set.

“This was one of those films where one person saw it at Sundance and thought it was funny,” Bocco said. “Maybe it wasn’t getting all the buzz, but by the end, we’d all seen it and it had an offbeat style of humor that we all loved.”
