LONDON — Icon Film Distribution has inked an exclusive distribution pact with European online film and TV subscription service Lovefilm.
Lovefilm, akin to Netflix in the U.S., will offer a selection of Icon’s pics, exclusive to the site for a year, including “Precious,” Viggo Mortensen starrer “The Road,” Mel Gibson starrer “Edge of Darkness” and Tom Ford’s “A Single Man.”
Dozens of titles from Icon’s back catalog will also be added to the Lovefilm player as part of the agreement.
This marks the second Brit indie distrib in as many months to pact with the service — Momentum Pictures, an Alliance Films company, inked a similar deal in November, which saw the distrib offer a selection of its pics exclusively to the site for a year, including “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy.
Lovefilm, which operates in Blighty, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany, has more than 1.4 million members and offers more than 67,000 titles to members through DVDs and digital streaming. In October, the service pacted with Sony, allowing PlayStation 3 users in Blighty to access Lovefilm content through their consoles.
