Thesp added to cast of New Line, Legendary pic

Ian McShane has joined the cast of New Line and Legendary’s “Jack the Giant Killer,” their twist on the “Jack and the Beanstalk” story.

Bryan Singer’s directing, with Neal Moritz and David Dobkin producing. Script by Darren Lemke centers on the kidnapping of a princess that threatens the long-standing peace between men and giants, and a young farmer who’s given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant kingdom to rescue her.

Nicholas Hoult’s in the lead role, and Eleanor Tomlinson portrays the princess. McShane will play her father, King Brahnwell.

Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy and John Kassir have also been cast. New Line hasn’t set a release date yet for “Jack.”

McShane portrayed King Silas Benjamin on the NBC drama series “Kings,” based on the biblical story of David. He’ll be seen next as Blackbeard in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
