Supreme Court rejects claim that appeals court erred in tax case

The Supreme Court refused Wesley Snipes’ appeal of his conviction and sentence for tax evasion.

Snipes, 48, is serving a three-year sentence for failing to file federal income tax returns. Last year, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld his conviction. That court rejected the actor’s assertion that a district court erred, ruling that the sentence was not “procedurally unreasonable” and that the court “acted well within its considerable discretion.”

Snipes was found guilty of tax evasion in 2008 and began serving his sentence in December.
