Michael Katleman is set to direct the action film “Red Squad” for Hannibal Classics with production slated to begin in the first quarter.
Project was announced Wednesday at the first day of the American Film Market.
Richard Rionda Del Castro will produce and Patricia Eberle, Doug Miller, Jeff Andrick, Martin Barab, Yasmine Brito, and Jorge Suarez will exec produce.
The film centers on a secret team of mercenaries hired by the director of the DEA to descend on a Mexican border town in an attempt to eliminate a vicious drug cartel.
“‘Red Squad’ is the type of action film the market is craving right now, a modern day ‘Magnificent Seven,'” Del Castro said.
The film is financed by London Pacific Finance with Hannibal Classics. Hannibal is also handling worldwide sales.
Hannibal’s produced “Touchback” with Brian Presley and Kurt Russell, the action film “Setup” starring Bruce Willis, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Ryan Phillippe; and the drama “All Things Fall Apart,” starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Mario Van Peebles, and Ray Liotta.
Katleman’s feature directorial debut was “Primeval” starring Orlando Jones. Past TV credits include ABC’s “The River,” FX’s “Justified: and CW’s “Vampire Diaries.”
