Former Sony Pictures Classics exec Ian Puente has been tapped by Samuel Goldwyn Films to the post of VP, business development and general counsel.
Puente will be tasked with overseeing business development as well as business and legal affairs. He’ll also take responsibility for strategic initiatives.
New hire is set to work closely with Goldwyn prexy Meyer Gottlieb and Peter Goldwyn, the company’s VP of acquisitions.
Exec’s resume includes business affairs posts at both SPC and First Look Studios. He also has been an associate at a couple of law firms.
Puente, who’ll be based in L.A., starts immediately. He joins the company as it gears up for a 2011 slate that includes Italian thriller “The Double Hour,” comedy “Exporting Raymond” and Rachel Weisz topliner “The Whistleblower.”
