Gewirtz to pen FBI story

'Black Mass' centers on Boston Irish mob

Cross Creek Pictures has tapped “Inside Man” scribe Russell Gewirtz to pen FBI drama “Black Mass.”

“Black Swan” producer Brian Oliver will produce with Cross Creek’s Todd Thompson and Brett Granstaff of Ridgerock Entertainment Group.

Based on a true story, project centers on an alliance between the FBI and the Boston Irish mob led by James “Whitey” Bulger.

Source material for the film comes from tome “Black Mass” by reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill, who investigated the connection betwen Bulger and the FBI for the Boston Globe.

Gewirtz’s previous credits include “Righteous Kill” and Universal’s “Tower Heist.”
