Actress joins Jeremy Renner in Paramount's 'Witch Hunters'

Gemma Arterton has been cast as Gretel in Paramount’s “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.”

She joins Jeremy Renner, who will play Hansel, with Tommy Wirkola (“Dead Snow”) directing.

The original take on the fairytale is set 15 years after the siblings killed the witch who kidnapped them. Hansel and Gretel have now evolved into bounty hunters who pursue witches.

D.W. Harper is writing, with Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick producing through their Gary Sanchez Prods.

Denis Stewart will exec produce.

The pic will begin shooting March 7 in Berlin. Scheduling for the shoot has been a challenge, since Renner has a packed agenda.

“Hansel and Gretel” will be shot in between “Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol” and “The Avengers,” both of which Renner is attached to.

Arterton was most recently seen in “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and “Tamara Drewe.”
