‘Game of Thrones’ helmer boards del Toro project

Drug mule thriller 'Midnight Delivery' to shoot next year

Brian Kirk has been brought on to helm Universal’s thriller “Midnight Delivery,” with Guillermo del Toro producing.

Neil Cross penned the script based on an idea by del Toro.

Del Toro is producing along through his Del Toro Productions. Gary Ungar and Russell Ackerman are exec producing.

Pic follows a father who becomes a drug mule to save his son’s life.

Universal’s executive veep of production Scott Bernstein and director of development Anikah McLaren will oversee for the studio.

Production is planned for next year, after Cross turns in his latest draft.

One of the principal directors on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Kirk has been active lately — he’s attached to direct “Paper Wings” for Lionsgate and also drew interest from Marvel at one point to director “Thor 2” before Patty Jenkins was hired.

Kirk recently wrapped production on the latest season of “Game of Thrones.”

He is repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group.
