Remake rounds up deals in Europe, Canada, Oz

Crime Scene Pictures has sold all major foreign territories on “Gambit,” a remake of the 1966 Brit comedy that toplined Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.

Glen Basner’s FilmNation began sales at Berlin in February, selling the Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth starrer to Alliance Films for Canada, Spain and Blighty. Other buyers include Metropolitan Film Export in France, Telemunchen in Germany, Medusa Films in Italy, West in Russia, Revolutionary Releasing in Eastern Europe, Paradiso in Benelux and Roadshow Films in Australia/New Zealand.

Principal photography was completed this week. Alan Rickman, Tom Courtenay, Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman also star, and Michael Hoffman directs from a screenplay by Joel and Ethan Coen.

Producers are Mike Lobell alongside Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris, who are also financing. Rizal Risjad and Philip Elway are exec producers.

CBS Films is distributing in the United States.
