Fox to distrib ‘Miss Bala’ in Mexico

International distrib arm nabs true story drama

Fox International Productions will distribute Gerardo Naranjo’s true story drama “Miss Bala” in Mexico this fall.

Pic, produced by Pablo Cruz, stars newcomers Stephanie Sigman and Noe Hernandez.

The story of a beautiful woman accused of involvement in a local drug cartel, which played out in the Mexican press, inspired the filmmakers to develop a big-screen fictional account of her tale.

“This is our view of the current situation in Mexico, and we want the rest of the world to know what’s happening here,” said Cruz in a statement.

Mexico has suffered greatly from drug cartel violence in recent months, with reports of savage murders and gruesome images flooding both Mexican and U.S. media.

Fox International Prods.’ senior VP of sales Shebnem Askin-Schreger has already sold “Bala” French rights to key French indie distrib and exhibitor Ad Vitam.

“Bala” is a co-production between Canana and Fox International Productions.

Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna and Geminiano Pineda exec produced.
