Fox Searchlight acquires ‘Homework’ rights

Gavin Wiesen makes directorial debut with film

PARK CITY, UTAH— Continuing a flurry of Sundance activity Sunday, Fox Searchlight announced it has acquired worldwide rights to Gavin Wiesen’s directorial debut “Homework.”

Searchlight, which already reps Sundance titles “Win Win” and “Cedar Rapids,” plans to release “Homework” this year.

Deal was negotiated by Searchlight’s Ray Strache, VP of acquisitions for, exec VP of worldwide acquisitions Tony Safford, and senior VP of business affairs Megan ‘O Brien. ICM repped North American rights.

Goldcrest is repping overseas rights.

“Homework,” toplining Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts, tells the coming-of-age story about a high school senior who makes his way through school without doing any homework.
