Fox, Greenfield prepping action-comedy

'Something Borrowed' director to write, helm pic; Simon Kinberg will produce

“The Girl Next Door” helmer Luke Greenfield is back in the 20th Century Fox fold with an untitled action-comedy that Simon Kinberg will produce through his overall deal with Fox.

Greenfield, whose WB romantic comedy “Something Borrowed” bows next week, wrote the script with Nicholas Thomas, who appeared in “The Girl Next Door.” The duo pitched the project to Fox’s Jeremy Kramer, and the studio decided to preemptively take the project off the table.

Greenfield will produce through his Wide Awake banner along with Kinberg’s Genre Films.

Pic is being developed as a vehicle for two high-profile male stars, and production is tentatively scheduled to start this fall.

“The script has a great tone,” Greenfield said.

Greenfield and Kinberg are repped by CAA. Thomas is with APA.
