Fox 2000 nabs ‘Whip It’ scribe’s rom-com

Escape Artists will produce the pitch from Shauna Cross

Fox 2000 has acquired an untitled pitch from “Whip It” scribe Shauna Cross that Escape Artists is producing.

Cross will write the script for the fish-out-of-water romantic comedy.

Todd Black and Steve Tisch will produce for Escape Artists, whose Chris Coggins and Lance Johnson came up the idea and developed the project internally before Coggins exited the company. Duo will receive co-producer credits.

Cross, who adapted Fox Searchlight’s Ellen Page-starrer “Whip It” from her own novel “Derby Girl,” is set to reteam with director Drew Barrymore on Warner Bros.’ “Heist Society,” which Cross is adapting from the novel by Ally Carter. “Heist Society” producer Denise Di Novi is also producing the Cross-scripted drama “If I Stay,” which Heitor Dhalia is attached to direct.

Cross most recently adapted Heidi Murkoff’s bestselling pregnancy tome “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” for Lionsgate. Heather Hach co-wrote the film, which will star Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks.

Cross is repped by WME and Jaret Entertainment.
