Israeli filmmaker Ari Folman will head the competition jury at the 17th Sarajevo Film Festival that runs July 22-30.
Folman based his animated Golden Globe-winning “Waltz With Bashir” on his experiences during the Israeli-Lebanon war of 1982.
The Sarajevo fest — launched in 1995 when the city was still under siege during the civl war that ripped post-Communist Yugoslavia apart — has become a major industry event for southeast Europe.
Its Cinelink project incubator scheme will run again this year. Films that have come through the scheme include Turkish filmmaker Semih Kaplanoglu’s Berlin Golden Bear winner “Honey” and Romania director Florin Serban’s “If I Want to Whistle
, I Whistle
,” which took a Silver Bear.
