First Run catches ‘Spy’

Fall release planned for documentary

First Run Features has captured U.S. rights to Spanish doc “Garbo: The Spy” for a fall release.

Edmon Roch’s pic centers on Juan Pujol, the WWII spy who duped the Nazis into believing D Day was a feint that would precede a real attack. Agent was nicknamed Garbo because of his role-playing skills.

Doc bowed at the Intl. Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam before it was released in Spain, where it won Goya and Gaudi kudos.

Stateside distribution deal for theatrical, DVD and other home entertainment rights was pacted by Andrew Herwitz of the Film Sales Company with Marc Mauceri on behalf on First Run. Distributor plans a fall release.
