MONTREAL — Canada’s First Generation Films, which produced “Amreeka” and “The Whistleblower,” is prepping “The Lesser Blessed,” based on Richard Van Camp’s first novel.
Pic follows Larry Sole, a Canuck Tlicho Indian growing up in a small northern town, who digs heavy metal, life in the North and the high-school “tramp.”
Larry is played by 16-year-old newcomer Joel Evans, who hails from Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories.
The cast also includes Benjamin Bratt, Kiowa Gordon, Tamara Podemski and Chloe Rose.
The pic is to be written and directed by Ukrainian Anita Doron (“The End of Silence,” “Late Fragment”) and produced by First Generation’s Christina Piovesan with Alex Lalonde co-producing.
Entertainment One has Canadian and international sales rights to the pic, which will shoot in northern Ontario.
