Fiore’s ‘Gotti’ reunites scribes

Levinson, Toback teamed for 'Bugsy'

Fiore Films has tapped James Toback to work on the original screenplay of indie drama “Gotti: Three Generations.”

The film will be directed and rewritten by Barry Levinson — who replaced Nick Cassavetes last month — with additional writing by Toback. Levinson and Toback teamed more than two decades ago on “Bugsy.”

“Everyone involved with the film is very excited to have James Toback on board,” said Marc Fiore, executive producer and producer of “Gotti” and CEO of Fiore Films. “His work with Barry Levinson on ‘Bugsy’ resulted in a highly acclaimed film that was widely recognized for its original screenplay.”

Fiore Films acquired life rights last year from John Gotti Jr., the son of the late mob boss John Gotti, to the story of his life with his father. Production is expected to begin in late fall, with a theatrical release in late 2012. The film will be shot in New York.

First version of the script was penned by Leo Rossi. Pic will focus on the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind.

John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Joe Pesci and Lindsay Lohan have signed on for key roles.
