'Blue Jeans,' 'Nakes Harbor' receive biggest checks
The Finnish Film Foundation is to give production support grants worth nearly $2.5 million to four feature projects.The org is handing $290,000 to “A Journey to Eden,” helmed by Rax Rinnekangas. The film, about two artists on a winter’s journey through Northern Spain who discover the meaning of forgiveness, has a budget of $469,000. It is due for a local release through Pirkanmaan Elokuvakeskus in September. Aku Louhimies’ “Nakes Harbor,” about life in a city suburb, gets $920,000 of its $1.9 million budget. Walt Disney Motion Pictures Finland releases the pic in February 2012. “Miss Blue Jeans,” directed by Matti Kinnunen, set in 1977 when Punk Rock arrived in Finland, receives $946,000 of its $2 million budget. Nordisk Film will release it in Finland in February 2012. Oskari Sipola’s “August,” about a teen’s coming of age, gets $260,000 toward its budget of just over $1 million. Nordisk releases the pic in April.
