Paramount pic grossed $65.1 million, not $65.8 mil, over weekend

After the dust settled, Paramount’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” came in with a revised $65.1 million debut take vs. its estimated $65.8 million gross through Sunday.

“Captain America” fell significantly behind Par’s earlier summer Marvel release, “Thor,” which debuted at $65.7 million the weekend of May 6.

Par estimated $18.2 million for “Captain America” on Sunday, but the film wound up slipping to $17.4 million — a 4% drop, making it the weekend’s biggest discrepancy for “Captain America.”

The nation’s heat wave, particularly on the East Coast, likely kept most moviegoers outdoors on Sunday.

Among the weekend’s remaining top three titles, No. 2 pic “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ earned $47.4 million, down from Warner Bros.’ projection $48.1 million for “Potter,” while Sony’s “Friends With Benefits” came in higher with $18.6 million vs. the pic’s estimated $18.5 million.
