LONDON — FilmFlex Movies, a joint-venture streaming service backed by Sony Pictures Television and Disney, has partnered with Film4’s online on-demand service, Film4oD, to launch a download-to-rent option.
Available only in Blighty, the option will enable Film4oD users to watch films offline for the first time. Each film rental saved to the user’s computer is available for up to 30 days, with unlimited viewing for up to 48 hours following the first play.
Prices for pics range from £0.99 to £3.99 ($1.54 to $6.20), and titles available from launch include Joe Cornish’s “Attack the Block” and Russell Brand starrer “Arthur.” Many future titles will be available on the same day as their DVD release.
Film4oD was launched last November and has more than 50,000 registered users. “The download-to-rent service makes it easier for those with low bandwidths or those on the go to enjoy the greatest selection of movies online,” said FilmFlex CEO Jeff Henry.
