Sessions mix shop talk with career advice
This being award season, there’s no shortage of opportunities to hear creatives wax on about their craft during the next few weeks.But Film Independent’s Directors Close Up series has become a favorite in the biz, with sessions that mix helmers and other key film biz players for intimate conversations about the art, science and commerce of making movies. And of course, a bit of career advice here and there for aspiring bizzers. The org’s 10th anniversary series kicks off Feb. 2 with a sesh featuring helmer Matt Reeves and sound designers Will Files and Doug Murray. The series will run on consecutive Wednesdays through March 2 at West L.A.’s Landmark Theaters. Writer-directors James Gray and Robin Swicord and Los Angeles Film Festival artistic director David Ansen will moderate. Other notables set to appear include William Friedkin, Lisa Cholodenko, Michael Giacchino, Nicole Holofcener and Jay Duplass.
