Nine projects set for first year's program
Film Independent has launched a documentary lab with nine projects and 14 filmmakers. The L.A.-based program, sponsored by Latino Public Broadcasting, runs seven weeks.Projects selected for the lab are “Above the Fold,” “Call Me Kuchu,” “Gravity,” “The Light in Her Eyes,” “The Road to Nasiriyah,” “Sick Mick and the Boys,” Strand: A Natural History of Cinema,” ” We Women Warriors” and an untitled doc on gay retirees. Mentors for the new lab are Laura Gabbert, Scott Hamilton Kennedy, Doug Pray, AJ Schnack, Caroline Libresco and Eddie Schmidt. Film Independent, which produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, has deadlines coming up for other filmmaker support programs, including an extension for Fast Track, which includes a $15,000 Alfred P. Sloan grant (April 4); Screenwriter’s Lab (March 28); Project:Involve (April 25); and Producers Lab (July 11). Go to FilmIndependent.org for more information.
