Haggis presides over Artists for Peace and Justice dinner
Paul Haggis presided over a celeb-laden dinner and auction for his Artists for Peace and Justice organization on the roof of Cannes’ Hotel Martinez on Wednesday, raising more than $400,000 to benefit Haiti.
“I’m not a humanitarian, I’m a bullying selfish prick,” Haggis demurred before turning the podium over to Milla Jovovich, who inveigled guests including co-host Ryan Kavanaugh into bidding on items including a Chopard watch for $15,000, an alligator bag, a Roberto Cavalli dress, a Mark Evans leather etching for $115,000 and a chalet weekend in Switzerland.
Model Karolina Kurkova, Jane Fonda, “90210” thesp Gillian Zinser, Israeli actress Moran Atias and Michelle Rodriguez were among supporters at the dinner.
Haggis pointed out that the org is building the first free high school in Haiti and raised $7 million last year, spending 95% of funds raised directly to benefit the country’s people.
After the auction, Kavanaugh joined the band for an impromptu rendition of “Sweet Home Alabama” overlooking the twinkling lights along the Croisette.
