Exec director ankling S.F. Film Society

Leggat steps down, citing health; Jenkins takes interim post

San Francisco Film Society exec director Graham Leggat has ankled his post, due to health issues. Deputy director Steven Jenkins will serve as acting executive director while the SFFS decides its future leadership.

Leggat has served as exec director since October 2005 and overseen an expansion of SFFS’s budget as well as the Society’s involvement in film culture. He helped SFFS launch a daily independent regional film mag online, increase grants for the Film Arts Foundation and expand the Society’s fall festival and film events.

“We’re all determined and prepared to pursue Graham’s vision,” said Pat McBaine, prexy of SFFS, who called Leggat “a visionary.”

Leggat said it has “been an unalloyed pleasure and honor to serve” the SFFS. “But unfortunately, health issues make it impossible for me to continue to serve effectively and I am stepping down to leave the organization in the capable hands of a remarkably devoted staff.”

Leggat did not disclose details of his illness in the letter of resignation.
