Film hits VOD ahead of theaters
Magnet Releasing, Magnolia Pictures’ genre label, has scared up U.S. rights to comic horror pic “Tucker and Dale vs. Evil,” skedding a VOD release a month prior to a theatrical run that begins Sept. 30.Pic starring Alan Tudyk (“Serenity”) and Tyler Labine (“Reaper”) will debut Aug. 26 via Magnolia’s Ultra VOD program, which debuts movies on VOD platforms ahead of theatrical dates.Film, about a couple of vacationing friends mistaken for hillbilly killers, has toured the fest circuit over the last year and a half, bowing at Sundance in 2010 and screening at SXSW, Fantasia and Screamfest, among others. Director Eli Craig co-wrote the script with Morgan Jurgenson. Producers include Deepak Nayar; Thomas Augsberger exec produced. Distribution deal was inked by Magnolia’s Tom Quinn with Augsberger of Eden Rock Media. “Tucker and Dale” joins a Magnet slate that also includes “ABC’s of Death,” “Trollhunter” and “13 Assassins.”
