Pics picked for Sept. competition in Venice
Established in 2007 as a “as a tangible symbol of the European Parliament’s commitment to the European cinema and its creative endeavors,” 10 films will be whittled down to three finalists in time for screenings at September’s Venice film festival before a winner is chosen by a vote of Euro MPs in November.
The winner will benefit from financial support to produce subtitled prints in all 23 of the official EU languages, a version of the original for visually or hearing-impaired people; and a 35 mm print or a digital cinema package per EU member state.
The competition is designed to help increase the visibility of European films and celebrate the universal reach of European values, and diversity of European traditions and provide insights into the creation of a unified Europe.
