Indian studio inks Japan, Romania deals

Indian studio Eros Intl. has struck a 100-film deal with Myanmar broadcaster Family TV, as well as inking pacts for Japan and Romania.

Family TV will have access to box office hits including “Dabangg,” “Kambakkht ishq” and “Anjaana anjaani,” alongside classics like “Mother India” and “Sholay.”

Theatrical Bollywood releases in Myanmar have been in decline since 2000 due to the flood of cheap pirated DVDs.

In Japan, Eros has partnered with distributor Atrium Prods. to release “Endhiran,” starring Tamil-language superstar Rajnikanth.

Pic has grossed more than $61 million worldwide since its 2010 bow. TV and homevid distribution will follow. The star has been popular in Japan ever since a dubbed version of his 1995 hit “Muthu” scored at the local box office.

Eros is launching 30 library titles in the Romanian DVD market, including “Housefull,” “Love aaj kal” and “Om Shanti Om,” subtitled in Romanian.
