Eros hopes for lucky 13

Superheroes, superstars on slate

LONDON — Bollywood studio Eros Intl. is selling 13 titles at Cannes. Toplining the list is London and Mumbai-set Hindi-language superhero film “Ra.One,” a co-production with Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies, featuring the thesp in the lead role, and shot by Terry Gilliam regular Nicola Pecorini (“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”). Pic is set for an Oct. 26 release.

Eros will also look for advance sales for Tamil superstar Rajnikanth vehicle “Rana,” being made in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages, and skedded for a 2012 release.

Other forthcoming Eros Bollywood releases featured at the market include Spain-set road movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”; Scotland- and India-set love story “Mausam”; romantic comedy “Ready”; musical “Rockstar”; spy thriller “Agent Vinod,” which shot in several global locations; U.K.- and India-set dramedy “Desi Boyz”; teen pic “Always Kabhi Kabhi”; and thriller sequel “Murder 2,” all featuring Bollywood A-listers.

The company will plug recent Bollywood releases “Game” and “Chalo Dilli,” both of which failed at the Indian box office.

Pakistani director Shoaib Mansoor’s sophomore effort, the social drama “Bol,” which focuses on the plight of women in contemporary Pakistan society, also will be handled by Eros at the market.

Mansoor’s debut, the anti-fundamentalist “Khuda Kay Liye,” was a surprise hit across the border in India.
