eOne nabs Loach’s ‘Angel’s Share’

Pic to lense in Scotland

Entertainment One has acquired U.K. rights to Ken Loach’s “The Angel’s Share,” a bittersweet comedy due to lense in Scotland this week.

The project reunites Loach with a slew of regulars, including long-time producer Rebecca O’Brien and scribe Paul Laverty, who penned “Looking for Eric” and “The Wind That Shakes the Barley.”

Thesps John Henshaw (“Looking for Eric”), William Ruane (“The Wind That Shakes the Barley”), Gary Maitland (“Sweet Sixteen”) and Roger Allam (“Tamara Drewe”) will topline.New Scottish talent include Paul Brannigan, Siobhan Reilly and Jasmin Riggins.

Story follows a new father, who has narrowly avoids a prison sentence and concocts a plan to carve out a new future involving a whisky distillery.

O’Brien’s Sixteen Films will produce alongside Why Not Prods. and Wild Bunch.

Pic also received backing from the recently shuttered U.K. Film Council, Les Films du Fleuve, Urania and France 2 Cinema.

eOne will release the pic in Blighty and Ireland in 2012. Wild Bunch is handling international sales. eOne picked up Canadian rights to Loach’s “Route Irish” from Wild Bunch last year at Cannes.
