Annual event brings together art community

Rain Phoenix warbled and Elijah Wood acted as DJ at the Art of Elysium “Heaven” Gala, held Saturday at the Annenberg Annex of the California Science Center. The charity, spearheaded by Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh, pairs creatives with children who are battling serious medical conditions. James Franco received the Spirit of Elysium Award.

“I met Kirsten Dunst on the set of ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and she told me that she was involved,” Franco recalled. “I’d been seeing a therapist for about a month then, and I knew I wanted to give back. Doing this changed my life!” And others agreed, including Nicole Richie, Scott Caan, Justin Bartha, Topher Grace and Alicia Witt, who all took to the runway with the kids they’ve mentored through Elysium.

But the gossip that night had nothing to do with giving back, as everyone buzzed about the couple hiding under the trees. It was tattoo artist Kat Von D and bad boy Jesse James. “Can you believe those two?” exclaimed one guest.
