EFM generates brisk biz

Mart boasts more participants, more films

BERLIN — The organizers of the European Film Market in Berlin offered an upbeat assessment of last month’s event, which attracted 7% more participants than last year.

“Buyers, sales agents, exhibitors and participants are reporting good business, exciting new projects and a very lively market atmosphere overall,” said EFM topper Beki Probst.

The Berlinale mart boasted 6,900 participants from 90 countries during Feb. 10-18, among them 1,532 international buyers and 400 exhibitors.

The EFM presented 741 films (including 570 market premieres) and 1,046 screenings compared with 666 films and 1,114 screenings in 2010.

The 3D boom was also reflected at the market with 30 titles — nearly triple last year’s number. The EFM Industry Debate on 3D attracted 600 attendees.
