DreamWorks goes ‘Undercover’ with Jason Segel

Steve Zaillian producing comedy with thesp attached

Jason Segel, who is currently deep in the world of the Muppets, may soon find himself going undercover to infiltrate New Jersey’s crime scene in the 1980s.

Thesp has boarded the project “Undercover Cop,” which is being developed at DreamWorks as a comedy that Jason Micallef (“Butter”) will write and Steven Zaillian will produce through his Film Rites shingle, that also has “Time Crimes” set up there.

Film Rites’ Garrett Basch will serve as executive producer.

DreamWorks has “I Am Number Four,” based on the young adult novel, bowing Feb. 18 that Disney will release through its Touchstone banner. Mouse House will also release the return of the Muppets to the bigscreen in November.

Zaillian recently penned the adaptation of Sony’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” for Sony and is expected to rework the script for Paramount’s reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise.
