Distrib also picks up Belgian, Danish pics

Year-old Drafthouse Films has pacted with Image Entertainment in an exclusive distribution deal for home video, digital, television and VOD.

Deal marks a further expansion of Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse’s plan to become a lifestyle brand. The Alamo Drafhouse chain of theaters — which rely on word of mouth and serving alcohol in a laidback setting — has 10 locations and is looking to expand into Los Angeles and New York soon.

Drafthouse Films has acquired North American rights to Michael Roskam’s crime drama “Bullhead,” Belgium’s official candidate for the Oscar foreign language film, and Mikkel Nogaard’s Danish comedy “Clown.” Drafthouse acquired North American rights to “Comin at Ya! 3D” in September following the premiere of the restored film at Fantastic Fest.

Drafthouse Films has appointed James Emanuel Shapiro, former exec director of sales planning and acquisitions for Anchor Bay, as the company’s new chief operating officer.
