Project: Involve participant is working on 'Above the Fold'

Los Angeles-based documentarian Roberto Gudino has been named the first recipient of Film Independent’s LG Cinema 3D Fellowship.

The fellowship recognizes a filmmaker from Film Independent’s Project: Involve diversity program with a $10,000 production grant. Gudino’s most recent film is “Above the Fold,” a one hour docu about a group of young Latino journalists who responded to negative portrayals of Latinos in the Los Angeles Times by writing their own stories, becoming the first Latino group to win the Pulitzer Prize.

His other films include “Just Coffee” and “Burning the Midnight Oil,” commissioned by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Film Independent will also dedicate a portion of funds to training this year’s Project:Involve filmmakers in 3D technology. The Project: Involve program runs annually from October through June.
