Ride has been closed for renovations since July

Disney will haul out the Force to open the revamped version of its “Star Tours” attraction at its Hollywood Studios theme park at Walt Disney World on May 20.

The original ride, a motion simulator which opened at Anaheim’s Disneyland park in 1987 and the Orlando park in 1989, has been closed for renovations since last July and September at both parks.

The original “Star Tours” rides still operate at Tokyo Disneyland (which also opened in 1989) and Disneyland Paris (1992). Ride was the first attraction Disney built that was based on a film made by another studio.

New 3D attraction called “Star Tours: The Adventures Continue,” will feature a new Starspeeder that guests board to travel to new planets. A new pilot and droids were also designed by Walt Disney Imagineering.
