Hemsworth is back, Branagh is not; pic bows July 26, 2013
Disney and Marvel Studios are ready to wield Thor’s hammer again, with “Thor 2″ being prepped for a July 26, 2013, release.
While Chris Hemsworth will again don the armor as the Norse god, Kenneth Branagh will not direct again. A sequel had already been a high priority at Marvel, with Don Payne, one of the scribes on the first film, already taking a stab at the story. Disney will also unspool “Iron Man 3″ on May 3, 2013, setting up a release sked similar to this year’s: “Thor” bowed in May, to be followed by “Captain America: The First Avenger” in July. Marvel has Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” which also prominently features the Thor character, lensing for a summer 2012 release. “Thor” has earned $437 million worldwide since May 6. It collected $177 million domestically.
