Company works with Unidad Editorial on new channel

LONDON — Unidad Editorial and Discovery Networks Intl. are to collaborate on a new free-to-air Spanish web.

The upstart, to bow in January, is a factual entertainment channel designed to complement Discovery’s pay webs that air in Spain.

Content on the channel, which is as yet untitled, will focus on Discovery shows from around the world, alongside prime news and current affairs fare produced by Unidad Editorial.

Antonio Fernandez-Galiano, prexy of Veo Television and CEO of Unidad Editorial, said: “This is an important agreement with Discovery Networks, the biggest non-fiction media company in the world.”

Dee Forbes, prexy and managing director, Discovery Networks Western Europe, added: “The launch of a free-to-air channel in Spain gives us the opportunity to increase the size of our Spanish business and reinforces our commitment to the Spanish market.

“We have a predominantly pay TV business across Western Europe, but in some markets such as Spain, where DTT is the dominant TV platform, the addition of a free-to-air channel, gives us an opportunity to share our content with the widest possible audience.”
