Tony Kaye pic to close film fest
Tony Kaye’s Adrien Brody starrer “Detachment” will close the 12th annual Woodstock Film Festival, which launches today with the U.S. preem of Bruce Beresford’s “Peace, Love and Misunderstanding” starring Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener.
In addition, Kaye (“American History X”) has been named the 2011 recipient of the fest’s annual Maverick Award, to be handed out in a ceremony hosted by Brendan Small (“Metalocalypse”).
Ellen Barkin, whose pic “Another Happy Day” screens as part of the fest, will pick up an acting honor. Creative Coalition topper Robin Bronk and thesp Mark Ruffalo are also among the bizzers set for kudos.
Also screening are Jonathan Demme’s “I’m Carolyn Parker” and Susan Seidelman’s ballroom dancing romance “Musical Chairs.” The ceremony, set for Saturday, will include a tribute to the late director-producer Gary Winick. Held not far from Gotham at venues in upstate New York, the Woodstock fest tends to attract a relatively high industry quotient for a smaller-scale fest.
The 2011 edition of Woodstock runs Sept. 21-25. “Detachment” was recently picked up by Tribeca Film for a 2012 release.
