“Transformers” and “X-Men” producer Tom DeSanto has boarded U.S.-China co-production “Gods,” which has already passed the censors at China’s Film Bureau.
He joins producer Steve Chicorel and exec producer Baiyi Chen, who co-authored the trilogy of novels that DeSanto is adapting.
“Gods” is based on the Chinese classic “Creation of the Gods,” which is a reinterpretation of the fall and rise of the Zhou Dynasty in 300 BC, featuring 108 demi-gods with unique powers.
It counts as one of the major epics of Chinese literature, and DeSanto has described the project as “Lord of the Rings” meets “X-Men.”
DeSanto was among panelists at the second annual U.S.-China Summit in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
