Distrib gets North American rights to pics

Exclusive– New U.S. distrib W2 Media has acquired North American distribution rights to laffer “Pete Smalls Is Dead,” as well as U.S. rights to British foodie coming-of-age pic “Toast.”

“Pete Smalls” stars Peter Dinklage, Tim Roth, Seymour Cassell, Rosie Perez, Steve Buscemi and Mark Boone Jr. and is directed by Alexandre Rockwell.

W2 plans an October theatrical release. The announcement was made in Cannes on Thursday by W2 Media president and CEO John Flock.

“Toast,” starring Freddie Highmore and Helena Bonham Carter, will kick off the British Film Institute’s From Britain With Love roadshow series June 11. Based on the memoir of Blighty food writer and cook Nigel Slater, “Toast” is produced by Brit shingle Ruby Films’ Faye Ward; Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits exec produce.

“Toast” sales agent K5 Intl. is seeing solid biz at this year’s festival so far. The sales agent has already closed deals on buzz title “Vehicle 19,” toplining Paul Walker. Pic was snapped up by Optimum Releasing for Blighty, and Kinowelt for Germany in Cannes.

W2 launched at the European Film Market in Berlin and recently released the thriller “Essential Killing,” starring Vincent Gallo, in Canada.
