The Ghetto Film School honored helmer David O. Russell at the Meat Packing District’s Standard Hotel on Monday, but the guest of honor arrived a half-hour after the dinner was supposed to have begun.
“I was in a meeting with Mr. De Niro,” Russell explained. “Possibly about ‘The Silver Linings Playbook: A Novel.’ ”
After Anna Faris and Marisa Tomei handed out kudos to various GFS students, Melissa Leo and Blake Lively, whose presence drew a large group of paparazzi staked just outside the venue, presented Russell with his award.
“When you are involved in these kind of things, it expands your world, which is always a good thing,” Russell said. “Anything that keeps your head out of your ass and keeps you connected to other people and helping other people is a good thing. You know, because in Hollywood you can get your head stuck up your ass.” Or stuck in a meeting with Mr. De Niro.
