Dafoe in talks for ‘Odd Thomas’

Stephen Sommers adapting Dean Koontz novel for Fusion Films

Willem Dafoe is in talks to play Sheriff Wyatt Porter in “Odd Thomas,” Stephen Sommers’ adaptation of Dean Koontz’s bestselling novel.

Pic stars Anton Yelchin as the titular hero, a clairvoyant short-order cook who encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark forces. Variety recently revealed that “Californication” star Addison Timlin was in talks to play the protag’s girlfriend, Stormy Llewellyn.

In the book, Sheriff Porter knows that Odd can see ghosts, and he creates cover stories to protect that secret, as Odd helps him solve and prevent crimes.

Fusion Films partners John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan are producing the supernatural thriller along with Sommers, who adapted the screenplay. “Odd Thomas” is scheduled to start production May 2 in Santa Fe, N.M.

Dafoe can currently be seen in Julian Schnabel’s “Miral” and will soon star as Tars Tarkas in Disney’s “John Carter of Mars.”

Dafoe is repped by WME and D/F Management.
