Environmental doc premiered at Sundance
PARK CITY, UTAH — In one of the latest deals to materialize at Sundance Film Festival, Dada Films announced it has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to helmer Bill Haney’s docu “The Last Mountain” with plans to release the film on June 3.“Mountain,” which preemed last Friday in the U.S. Documentary competition category, is set in a rural community in West Virginia and chronicles the environmental fall-out of invasion from one of the biggest coal companies. “The amazing beauty and power of the film and the tremendous audience reaction in Sundance confirms my conviction that ‘The Last Mountain’ can have the same effect that Oscar winners ‘The Cove’ and ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ had,” said Dada prexy MJ Peckos. Pic was produced by Clara Bingham, Eric Grunebaum and Haney, who also co-scripted the film with Peter Rhodes. Tim Disney and Tim Rockwood exec produced.
