Actor in negotiations for one of the lead roles in Paramount pic

Detroit 1-8-7″ star D.J. Cotrona is in negotiations for one of the lead roles in Paramount’s “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.”

Jon Chu (“Justin Bieber: Never Say Never”) is directing the 3D sequel from a script by “Zombieland” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Par had no comment on the casting.

Cotrona is in talks to play Flint, the warrant officer for the Joes. Character is a Rhodes Scholar and a master tactician who is recruited by team leader Duke, a character Channing Tatum will reprise in the sequel.

Thesp joins Dwayne Johnson and Elodie Yung (“District 13: Ultimatum”) as a new member of the franchise, which sees Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce and Byung Hun Lee returning.

Johnson will play aspiring chef Roadblock, while Yung will play a ninja named Jinx.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing the action pic, which will introduce several new characters.

Cotrona previously appeared on the bigscreen last year in “Dear John.” He’s repped by UTA and The Schiff Company.
