Pic follows deaf wrestler's nat'l champ win

D&E Entertainment has grabbed coming of age drama “The Hammer” for an Oct. 27 theatrical release.

ARC Entertainment will be heading VOD/DVD/BluRay distribution and Archstone Distribution will be heading international distribution of the film. TapouT and Purple Communications have joined as marketing partners.

Pic’s based on the life of UFC fighter Matt Hamill as he becomes the first deaf wrestler to win a national collegiate championship. Raised among those with the ability to hear, he finds himself no less an outsider amidst the deaf community but turns what could be a disability into an asset.

The film stars deaf actors Russell Harvard and Shoshannah Stern as Matt Hamill and Kristi Hamill, and Raymond J. Barry as Matt’s grandfather.

Oren Kaplan directed and Joseph McKelheer and Eben Kostbar produced and penned the script.
