‘Cutoff’ from civilization

Showbizzers learn to adapt pioneering ways

Following Monday’s Cinema Society screening of “Meek’s Cutoff” in New York, the cast discussed how they’d fare as pioneers.

Star Michelle Williams confessed, “GPS has totally taken away my ability to read a map.”

“If you want to get lost, go with me,” echoed co-star Zoe Kazan. “I would not be the person to follow on the Oregon Trail or any other kind of trail.”

The ladies were on hand Monday night for the Landmark Sunshine screening of Oscilloscope Laboratories’ “Meek’s Cutoff,” which was followed by a party at Jimmy (at the James Hotel).

Director Kelly Reichardt was joined by cast members Will Patton, Tommy Nelson and Paul Dano, who reported that he acquired a few skills while making the film.

“We went through a week of intensive pioneer camp, and I could start a fire with nothing,” Dano said. “I now know how to work with oxen and horses.”
