EXCLUSIVE: Before he plays Debra Messing’s son in NBC’s upcoming fall series “Smash,” Emory Cohen will play Bradley Cooper and Greta Gerwig’s son in Derek Cianfrance’s multigenerational crime drama “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
Cohen will play AJ, a drug dealing teen who’s resentful of his father, who seems to care more about his budding political career. AJ will clash with the character played by Dane DeHaan, who was recently cast as Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ son.
Sidney Kimmel Entertainment is financing and producing “Pines,” which starts shooting later this month in Schenectady, N.Y.
Sidney Kimmel is producing with the “Blue Valentine” trio of Alex Orlovsky, Lynette Howell and Jamie Patricof, while SKE’s Jim Tauber and Matt Berenson are exec producing. Sierra/Affinity is handling foreign sales.
Gersh and Harvest Talent Management rep Cohen, who recently wrapped the indie film “Four,” in which he stars opposite Wendell Pierce. Thesp previously appeared in Antonio Campos’ 2008 Cannes pic “Afterschool.”
